In Safe Hands: Stewart Milne Timber Systems Scoops Top Safety Award
David Nimmo, operations director of Stewart Milne Timber Systems (SMTS) was celebrating this week after scooping the top award at the NHBC Health and Safety Awards in Birmingham. Having been shortlisted, David was declared joint winner of the Best Industry Health and Safety Leader award; the top honour in the NHBC’s coveted Special Award categories. The award recognises senior managers and directors in their demonstration of top-level commitment to health and safety, and how this translates to tangible results. David was commended for his innovative approach to changing processes and encouraging a culture of responsibility within his team. David, who has been with SMTS since 1997 and joined the board in October 2007, is currently responsible for planning, manufacturing, timber frame erection and commercial functions, as well as fulfilling his role in managing health and safety. Commenting on David’s award, Ron Easton, managing director of Stewart Milne Timber Systems said: “As the UK’s largest timber frame provider, we have a responsibility to lead from the front not only in the services we provide for our clients, but also in the organisation’s internal operations. “Health and safety is one of those internal issues that carry the utmost priority at Stewart Milne Timber Systems and David’s award is testament both to him as a leader within the industry, and the company’s attitude towards such areas.
