One of the UK’s leading independent housebuilding, construction and development companies, Stewart Milne Group, is celebrating after two of its employees were recognised at the prestigious NHBC Health and Safety Awards. The awards, presented at a ceremony in Birmingham, were created to reward home builders who keep health and safety at the top of their agenda, in spite of the difficulties of the recession. The awards offer an opportunity to focus on the important areas of worker engagement and senior management leadership in matters of health and safety. The first success for the company came as David Nimmo, operations director of Stewart Milne Timber Systems, picked up the top award in the industry body’s coveted Special Award categories. David was declared joint winner of the Best Industry Health and Safety Leader award which recognises senior managers and directors in their demonstration of top-level commitment to health and safety, and how this translates to tangible results. David’s achievement was soon followed by Gary Izatt, site manager for Stewart Milne Homes’ Wallace Gardens development in Stirling, who was Highly Commended in the Best Site Awards. These awards recognise the unique role that site managers play in safeguarding health and safety on site, and the company infrastructure that supports them. Commenting on the success, John Slater, Stewart Milne Group managing director – Homes, said: “This is a great result for the Stewart Milne Group as a whole and a wonderful recognition of our credentials as a leading company within the housebuilding and construction industries. “Any business is only as good as the people it employs, and these awards are a real testament to the highly skilled and dedicated teams across the Group, which continue to deliver the quality and excellence the Stewart Milne brand is built on. I would like to take this opportunity to thank David and Gary for their ongoing commitment and express my congratulations on their wonderful achievements.” June 2010 |
