Scottish Cabinet Minister visits Stewart Milne Timber Systems' AIMC4 development

The Stewart Milne Group recently welcomed Alex Neil, Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Infrastucture and Capital Investment, to view its latest low carbon, low energy houses in Prestonpans, East Lothian, newly completed as part of the AIMC4 project.

With the Scottish Government committed to meeting robust carbon reduction targets, the new homes demonstrate how innovative design based on a fabric first approach to building new developments can reduce costs, increase speed of build and deliver significant energy efficiencies without the need for additional micro-renewable technologies.

The ground-breaking £6.4m AIMC4 project, devised by a consortium of industry leading developers and experts, was created to research and deliver Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 homes through just such a fabric-first approach.

For the latest phase of the project, the company supplied and erected its award-winning Sigma II Build System to build a group of detached homes at Stewart Milne Homes’ Athena Grange development in Prestonpans, East Lothian. The result is affordable, consumer friendly and energy efficient homes, which were easily and quickly erected.

Commenting on Mr Neil’s visit, Alex Goodfellow, Group Managing Director – Timber Systems said: “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to showcase the results of our AIMC4 involvement to the Scottish Government. In doing so, we hope we have provided food for thought by presenting a real alternative to low-zero carbon technologies, and a cost-effective solution to driving down Greenhouse Gas Emissions, which will make a difference to public sector building in particular.

Co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board, AIMC4 comprises a consortium of industry leading developers and experts: Stewart Milne Group, Crest Nicholson Plc and Barratt Developments Plc; plus H+H UK Ltd and BRE.
