Stewart Milne Timber Systems looks to enhance growth with North West BD appointment

The UK's leading designer and manufacturer of timber systems, Stewart Milne Timber Systems, is looking for growth in North West England during 2014 with the appointment of John Cain to manage its business development activities across the area.

Stewart Milne Timber Systems experienced a significant year-on-year increase in quotations during 2013 as the market began to pick up and timber frame started becoming more sought after.

This growth is also a result of the company's continued innovation in its product offering. During 2013 the business launched its enhanced Sigma II Build System which can now be used on projects up to six storeys and is the only BOPAS accredited build system in the UK.

The company responded to continued confidence in the upturn by making an addition to its business development team in the North West, a key region for Stewart Milne Timber Systems. John Cain's appointment is another reflection of Stewart Milne Timber Systems' confidence as the company invests more in its business development resource during an upturn in the construction industry.

Previously a sales manager for Robertson Timber Engineering's English division, John will lead Stewart Milne Timber Systems' push in the region where it has worked on several projects in the last few years, including its Adelphi development in Preston as part of the AIMC4 consortium. The business was part of the team that delivered the BREEAM Outstanding rated The Green project at Bradford University.

John Cain brings with him over 15 years of experience across the construction sector, ranging from windows and doors to joinery and timber frame. He also has extensive senior management experience having held the positions of regional sales director at Anglian Building Products and northern sales manager for Speed Frame PVC-u.

On top of his experience in sales, Mr Cain has a strong background in partnering with clients to deliver value engineered solutions, a key component of the company's offering. Having already worked with timber frame in his most recent position, John has a thorough appreciation of the advantages that this construction method can offer customers.

Eddie Stanton, sales director for Stewart Milne Timber Systems, said: "We're experiencing significant growth at the moment and we were looking to appoint someone who could develop this in a key area for us.

"John's previous sales experience, particularly in the timber frame industry, will be helpful for us as we set out our stall for growth. The growth in the construction market is presenting significant opportunities for us as a company and the appointment of John will enhance our ability to respond.

"The North West is a key area for our business and we're looking to expand our presence. We're pleased to have John on board."

John Cain said: "It's an exciting time to join Stewart Milne Timber Systems as the company has set ambitious growth targets. Timber frame is well placed to meet the market's requirements for speedy build programmes that meet increased energy targets.

"I'm looking forward to working with the sales team and my other colleagues in the North West to drive the company's growth in the area and deliver for customers."

Mr Cain's appointment follows the hiring of Eddie Stanton early in 2013, who joined the Stewart Milne Timber Systems board with overall responsibility for sales across the UK. Keith Wood, who took up a business development position in East Scotland, was also appointed along with Mr Stanton.
